Firemaking is one of the most overlooked skills in all of Runescape. It is also one of the most less used for things
such as quests. Yet, firemaking is the easiest skill to train. It only has one use though, and that is to have basically to
cook food.
You need two things to start or at least attempt to light a fire. Wood and a Tinderbox. Tinderboxes are
easy to get a hold of. They are sold at General Stores for 1 gp. How cheap can you get? The next thing you need are logs.
To cut trees, you need to have an axe. I am talking about hatchets. Battle Axes will not cut trees. Once you get some logs
in your inventory, you have to drop them. Use the tinderbox on the logs. If you fail, try again. As your levels raise, you
will fail less. Just keep at it.
Firemaking levels up the fastest due to its mad experience system. So if your going
for high scores in skill total, level up in firemaking. Charcoal is used in some quests. This is a member's only (p2p), however,
and you have to have a crafting level of 10. Use coal on a fire and you get charcoal. Also for members, you cannot light anything
other than logs. Magic, yew, maple, etc, are for fletching only.
The thing that makes firemaking different from every
other skill, is how you gain experience. Your firemaking level actually affects how much experience you gain each time you
light a log. To figure how much experience you get each time you light a log, use this equation. Let "a" represent your firemaking
level and * represent multiplying: (a * 1.75) + 25. Example: Your firemaking level is 65. So the equation is (65 * 1.75)
+ 25. 65 times 1.75 equals 133.75 which rounds to 134. Add 134 and 25 and you get 159. So you get 159 xp everytime you light
a fire.
